Thoughts of an Expectant Mom

Being pregnant is one of the most wondrous and magical adventures that I ever experienced.   With my ever-supportive husband, I enjoyed the intimacy between me and my baby for nine months.  All throughout the process, everything grows rounder and wider and weirder, and I sit in the middle of it all and wonder who in the world our baby will turn out to be.  I looked forward to our baby’s arrival in this world with huge anticipation.  I longed for the day when I can finally physically carry our baby in my arms and look at our baby in the eyes.

THE MOTHER
Name : Carmela
Age : 29
Place of Origin : San Jose, Antique

THE FATHER
Father : Kenneth
Age : 30
Place of Origin : Malaybalay, Bukidnon

 SO, IT’S CONFIRMED!!!   POSITIVE!!!!

What day did you found out? : July 22, 2010
How did you found out? :  It was a missed period for nearly a week.  My breasts were starting to feel tender.  Ken im plied that I might be pregnant but I was not really sure and was afraid to be disappointed again.  After a year of trying to conceive but failed, seeing a single red line each time I undergo a home pregnancy testing was always a disappointment for both of us.  A little bit excited yet anxious, Ken suggested visiting my OB-Gyne.  After the consultation, she told us that symptoms suggests that I maybe pregnant; however, to be certain I still have to undergo serum pregnancy testing.  Results came out and it was POSITIVE!!!
How did you feel when you found out? : Overwhelmed, nervous, dreamy, ecstatic…
How did the father feel/reacted when he found out? : Over-reacting, over-protective, bought lots of fruits, do all chore s for me (hahahaha… lucky me!!!) always in the right mood…  =)
Who was with you ? : Kenneth
Who was the first person you confided? : My mother

TELLING THE GRANDPARENTS
How did your parents react? : They’ve been expecting this for almost a year.  Very happy.
How did his p arents react? : Pretty much everyone was ecstatic.  Their very first grandchild.  They were instantly very supportive especially his only brother.
Are they helping with the baby names? : Nope.  My husband wanted the name that means heaven sent, precious or gift.  We were the ones in-charged selecting baby names.
Have they bought anything for the baby? : Funny this was, my mother-in-law planned to buy a baby stroller even the baby was not yet delivered.

PREGNANCY MILESTONES
Where was your baby conceived? : =) At our room.  We are trying to conceive during our vacation trip at Boracay but it was not successful. =)
What were your first symptoms? : Exhaustion, tenderness of the breasts and headache
Morning sickness? : Mostly, happened during nighttime.  (Weird?!?! Coz it is called “morning” sickness”)
Cravings? : Young golden coconut meat.  I don’t usually go for unripe mangoes just like other pregnant women who go for sour foods.
When was your first appointment? : July 27, 2010
When was your expected due date? : March 23, 2011
When was the baby delivered? : March 31, 2011; 4:49 PM
Pre-pregnancy weight : 110 pounds

8 days before delivery...
Weight on the expected month : 145 pounds
Have you felt the baby move? : All the time, this started at around 18 weeks of my pregnancy.  Kaizle was a little mover.
Have you had ultrasound? : Twice.  First was on December 19, 2010.  A healthy baby girl was detected.  Second was on March 25, 2011.  This was because I was already almost a week overdue that my doctor advised me to do so.
Have you heard the heartbeat? : Every time I go to appointments.
Reaction upon hearing the baby’s heartbeat : I was a bit thwarted during the first schedule.  We could hardly hear the beat because the baby’s been doing a lot of movements inside my tummy.  Hearing the heartbeat for the first time was very magical, thinking that there was life inside me that I will carry for nine months.
What was the heartbeat? : It usually stays between 140 – 145.
Do you have stretch marks? :  Being a very supportive husband, he rubbed oil or shea butter cream around my belly and thigh area since the start of my pregnancy.   I also did not have the habit to scratch when itchiness alleviates.  I have couple of patches but it turned out to be thin that it looked like it’s not there.  I honestly don’t mind having them, anyway.  I have a healthy and lovely angel.

THIS IS IT!!!!
Preparation? : At my 5th month of pregnancy, baby things were almost ready.
Who were with you? : Ken, my husband and my mother.
Natural or medicated? : Natural, of course!!!
Were you scared about the labor? : Yes, because I have low tolerance when it comes to pain.
Do you think you will need a C-section during that time? : After almost three hours in the delivery room and hours of labor, I almost thought of that.  I also heard one of the DR staff the possibility of having a caesarian operation.  I almost gave up but since I already made it this far, I need to be strong for me to have a natural and normal delivery.
Holding your baby for the first time : The labor pains and all were worth it.  Seeing and holding my baby for the first time seems so breathtaking, I forgot all the pains I’ve been through.

What is your wonderful pregnancy journey?  Share it here.  I would love to hear it.
